NPC initiates investigation into alleged assault of protestor

The National Police Commission (NPC) has initiated an investigation into an alleged assault on a protester by a senior Police officer during the joint opposition protest at Hambantota on Friday.

The secretary of the National Police Commission Ariyadasa Cooray said that a meeting will be held on October 12 to discuss the incident and to recommend action.

Meanwhile, the Hambantota Magistrate Courts ordered to remand the 28 protestors who were apprehended for unruly behaviour during the protest until October 16, on Friday.

There were 21 males and 7 females among the arrested. The protestors held a demonstration on October 7 near the Indian Consular office despite a restraining order by the Court.
