AW Energy Facility based in Helsinki, Finland pledged to provide all necessary support to Sri Lanka to produce wave energy.
Chief Executive Officer of the AW Energy Facility John Liljelund said that they are ready to extend their full support to Sri Lanka to produce energy through waves.
He added that primary research has already been completed in Sri Lankan coastal areas and they would begin energy production by next year.
Liljelund made this observation when Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe made a visit to the AW energy facility on Monday during his official visit to Helsinki, Finland.
It was highlighted that even though waves are not used to produce energy in many parts of the world, there are higher possibilities for it to be used as a main sources to produce energy in the future.
According to research conducted so far, the Indian Ocean has been identified as an ideal region to produce wave energy. It would be used to produce environment friendly wave energy, electricity, to purify sea water to pump water.
The project was explained to the Sri Lanka delegates by Chief Executive Officer John Lilielund, Chief Technical officer Christopher Ridgwell, Business development officer Tomas Mucha, Chief Engineer Sami Pasanen.
Prime Minister Secretary Saman Ekanayake, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Norway Jayantha Palipana, Prime Minister Additional Secretary Saman Athavudhahetti, Special Assistant Sandra Peters,South Asian Ambassador to Finland Rauli Suikkanen, Sri Lankan Consul to Finland Ashrof Omar, Chairman of the Finland -Sri Lanka business council Jayantha Samarakkoon also participated.
