Bambalapitiya Grama Niladhari was arrested for accepting a Rs. 25,000 bribe from a businessman to include his name in the electoral register.
He was arrested by the officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption while he was accepting the bribe. He had received Rs 5,000 earlier, the officers said.
The suspect had solicited the bribe to include the businessman’s name in the electoral register and to get a new identity card. Another who allegedly had assisted the crime was also arrested, the officers said.
