UK General Medical Counsel pledges to review SAITM qualification criteria, acceptance applications

UK General Medical Counsel (GMC) Registration Application Head Richard Amison has confirmed that the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) qualification criteria and acceptance applications will be reviewed, the SAITM Management said.

Releasing a statement they said that the GMC has pledged to review the quandary under the direction of the government and other legal institutions.

‘We were presented to the GMC by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) with the intention of halting SAITM graduates from applying to the GMC’, the SAITM Management said.

Furthermore the SAITM Management assured that they are on par with the necessary requirements of the GMC, contrary to the revelations made by the media yesterday that UK GMC had listed  Sri Lanka Malabe Private Medical College under the ‘Overseas Medical qualifications not accepted by the GMC’ category.

They said that discussions are underway with the UK GMC to resolve an immediate solution with mutual benefits in order to avail SAITM graduates to submit applications at the GMC.
