Showers to enhance over the next two days: More strong winds expected

 

Showery condition over the Southwestern and Northwestern province is expected to enhance during September 16 and 17, the Meteorological Department said.

Strong winds can be expected over the country - particularly in Northern, North-central, Uva and Northwestern provinces and Hambantota district - and surrounding sea areas from tomorrow.

Several spells of showers will occur at Western, Sabaragamuwa, Northwestern and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly strong gusty winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected over Northern, North-central, Uva and Northwestern provinces and in the Hambantota district, the Met. Department said.

It said there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers and warned the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
