Nuwara Eliya hospitals to develop with Netherlands funds

All State hospitals located in the Nuwara Eliya district will be developed under the direction of Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne. The hospitals will be developed with the financial assistance of the Netherlands Government, Health Ministry sources said.

According to the sources, the construction work of Nuwara Eliya General Hospital is now being completed and all required medical equipment will be supplied by the contractors.

The hospital was scheduled to open in 2015, but it was delayed due to issues with certain buildings which were re-done by the contractor after the consultants of the hospital pointed out the mistakes to them.

New quarters for doctors had been constructed in the hospital and it will be handed over to them soon. Minister Senaratne will provide 66 doctors and 100 nurses for the hospital before the end of this year. A total of 26 doctors and 40 nurses will be provided for Dikoya State Hospital developed with the assistance of the Indian Government, the sources said.

Maskeliya Hospital and Nallathanniya State Dispensary will be developed and required human resources will be provided to serve pilgrims visiting Shri Pada. Estate hospitals and all other state hospitals in the Nuwara Eliya will be developed under the project, the sources added.
