Six students drowned when their boat capsized in the sea off Mandathivu island yesterday.
Seven Advanced Level students were going to Mandathivu island in a fishing boat to celebrate the completion of Advanced Level examination when the mishap occurred. Police said that these students were under the influence of liquor when the accident occurred at around 12.30 p.m yesteray.
Kayts Police sources said that five bodies were recovered and the search is continuing with the assistance of the Navy to recover the bodies of other victims.
The bodies are being kept at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital morgue for identification.
Kayts Police are conducting further investigations.
