GMOA to take action if SAITM matter not resolved

The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA), along with the People's barricade Against SAITM, will make a firm decision and take stern action if the President failed to keep his promise and announce the solution for SAITM by midnight yesterday, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

Addressing a press conference held at the GMOA Headquarters in Colombo yesterday, he said that the trade union action can be a continuing island-wide strike. Last Friday (25), President Maithripala Sirisena informed the GMOA that the final solution for the SAITM issue will be announced to the country in writing by Monday (28). According to Dr. Herath, the doctors attached to the state hospitals in the North Central Provincial Council launched a strike yesterday in protest of not paying the communication allowance of Rs. 4,500 and few other issues. The allowance had been cut down to Rs. 2,500 by the Provincial Council.

The doctors attached to the Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura General hospitals governed by the Central Government will join the strike if the North Western Provincial Council does not solve the issues.
