Cabinet discusses Polythene ban

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have discussed the ban on Polythene on priority basis at the Cabinet Meeting yesterday. According to sources, both the President and Prime Minister agreed to take a final decision on the Polythene ban by January when the issue was taken up for discussion at the Cabinet meeting yesterday. Meanwhile, the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday granted approval to provide compensation to the families of those who were killed during the disturbances at Beruwala and Aluthgama in 2014.

Minister of Resettlement, Prisons Reforms and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M. Swaminathan had submitted a memorandum in this regard for approval

A victim’s family will receive compensation of Rs.2 million.

Those who were injured by these incidents will also be provided compensation of Rs.500,000 each.
