Bokala creepers to act as wasp attack preventive measure

Sigiriya rock

Growing ‘Bokala’ creepers along a coir mesh is the latest measure adopted to protect visitors to Sigiriya from wasp attacks by the Sigiriya project of the central Cultural Fund as a pilot project.

CCF director General Prashantha Gunawardena said it will be extended to cover the entire Sigiriya rock area depending on its success.

Its success would mean that wasps could co-exist with tourists in the Sigiriya world heritage site in future.
