ATM card stolen and money illegally withdrawn

An Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) card belonging to a person at Hegoda in Rathgama in Galle which had been kept inside the almirah of his house, has been reportedly stolen while the owner was on a pilgrimage to the sacred city of Kataragama, Rathgama Police said.

The owner of the ATM card in his complaint to the Police, stated that he went to Kataragama on a pilgrimage on August 3 and after his

return, he had found the ATM card that was kept in the almirah was missing. On inquiry from the respective bank, he was informed that since August 3 to 22 an amount of Rs. 201,530 had been withdrawn from his account.

Rathgama Police initiated investigations based on the complaint on the instructions of OIC IP Kamal Kiriella.
