Customs sleuths yesterday arrested an Army Intelligence Officer attached to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle gold jewellery worth over Rs.9.1 million.
According to Customs sources, the gold jewellery was found hidden in the knee guard of the suspect.
The suspect has told the Customs officials that he received gold jewellery weighing over two kilograms from a passenger who came from Singapore. However, the person who is said to have given the jewellery has reportedly gone missing.
