Prison officials and the inmates of the Welikada Prison held a ‘Vesak Kalapaya’ in front of the prison.
It was opened by Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs Minister D. M. Swaminathan yesterday.
The zone includes a pandal, lanterns, bhakthi geetha and many other illustrations depicting Buddhist ways of life.
The minister said the inmates irrespective of their faiths participated in the event.
