Pakistani PM to enhance Pakistan-Sri Lanka cooperation

 

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif yesterday called for further enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in various fields and working jointly for achieving regional peace and stability, The News reported.

Talking to Commander of the Sri Lankan Army Lt-Gen AWJ De Silva who called on him at the PM House, the Pakistani Prime Minister called for further strengthening defence-related cooperation between the two countries. He added that Pakistan and Sri Lanka need to further expand cooperation in all areas.

The Sri Lankan general thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome extended to him during his visit to Pakistan. Lt-Gen De Silva also visited the GHQ and met with Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa. He was given a briefing on the campaign against terrorist and banned organisations.

Lt-Gen De Silva appreciated Pakistan Army's achievements and contributions towards national and regional security. He also thanked for incessant support to the fight against terrorism in Sri Lanka and expressed full confidence in Pakistan's ability to completely overcome the menace in near future. Both sides reaffirmed their determination to work together for enhancing regional security and continuing existing military-to-military cooperation.
