No Lankans hit in Manchester show blast

There has been no information so far about any Sri Lankan being injured or affected by the terrorist attack on a musical show held in Manchester, England.

A spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry said the Foreign Ministry is still in the process of gathering further information regarding this incident.

Foreign wire services reported that 22 persons were killed and another 50 persons were injured in an explosion at the “Manchester Arena indoor stadium” at the conclusion of a musical show staged by American songstress Ariana Grande.

Meanwhile, Islamic State(IS) has claimed responsibility for a bombing at a pop concert in Manchester which left 22 people dead.

In a statement released by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's official Amaq news agency, they said it was revenge for attacks on "Muslim lands". "One of the soldiers of the Caliphate was able to place an explosive device within a gathering of the Crusaders in the city of Manchester," it said, appearing to challenge the Manchester police theory it had been a suicide attack. They described the venue as a "shameless" Isil did not publish a name or picture of the assailant, which they have done for some major attacks in the past.

Meanwhile,Police have arrested a man, 23, in connection with the terror attack at Manchester Arena. ‘With regards to the ongoing investigation into last night’s horrific attack at the Manchester arena, we can confirm we have arrested a 23-year-old man in South Manchester,’ Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.

Detectives are investigating whether the attacker acted in connection with others.

The man arrested is suspected of involvement however police have not given specifics.

Witnesses said they saw bolts and other bits of metal, indicating the bomb may have contained shrapnel intended to maximize injuries.

Public transport shut down, and taxis offered to give stranded people free rides home, while residents opened their homes to provide lodging.
