GMOA STRIKE CRIPPLES HOSPITALS AGAIN

The token strike launched by the GMOA crippled services at the hospital OPDs across the island yesterday.  Hospital services were crippled countrywide yesterday due to the 24 hour token strike launched by the members of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday.

 The strike ended at 8.00 am today, May 23. All surgeries including the surgeries to be done according to the waiting lists were carried out at the Colombo National Hospital without any interruption. Some clinics also functioned, Dr. Jasinghe said.​

GMOA’s Dr. Nalinda Herath said accident services, maternity hospitals, children’s hospitals, Maharagama cancer hospital, Kidney Hospital and dialysis units, cancer units and hospitals of armed forces were not affected by the strike.​

The strike was a success, he added. ​Several clinics and OPDs of state hospitals did not function as usual due to the strike and a large number of patients faced difficulties due to the strike.
