Parts of the garbage dump in Meethotamulla have collapsed damanging as many as 100 homes.
Two have been injured and rushed to the Colombo National Hospital.
President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered the Disaster Management Minister and the tri-forces to step in.
An Airforce helicopter has also been deployed.
